Gonzo Access Lights up the Last Miles of Local Rural Areas with Unobtrusive Wireless Broadband System
LYONS: Gonzo Access of Longmont is lighting the last miles of local rural areas with a six-by-six inch box that is at the heart of a very competitively priced wireless broadband network.
“The turnout and interest we’ve had in this last-mile solution has so far has been outstanding,” said Mark Judson, CEO of Gonzo Access. Judson and his staff of sales representatives and technicians held two days of technology demonstrations at the Stone Cup in Lyons, March 18 and 19, during which time they demonstrated the product to about 100 interested residents and business people.
“We had more than a few people ask if we could hook them up that day,” Judson said. “We had to explain that we were a little busy right at that point.”
Judson has more than 15 years of experience in cellular phone and wireless broadband network installation, but a new turnkey solution offered by QENEX(R) — a division of Eller Industries, Inc., also of Longmont — prompted him to get into the network ownership game. The QENEX(R) wireless solution far exceeds existing networks based on WiFi protocols in Internet connectivity speed, performance and the reliable distance between hubs and receivers.
Gonzo is offering three levels to both business and residential customers. Business service plans range from $75 to $175 in price for Internet speeds between one and three Mbps (megabits per second). Custom speeds are available to up to 45 Mbps. Residential prices vary between $45 and $85 per month for speeds between 600 Kbps (kilobits per second) and 2 Mbps, but Judson said most DSL and cable access customers have been amazed at the quicker performance of the QENEX(R) system.
“Importantly, there are no hidden costs in the system — there is no additional ISP cost, need for phone lines or a cable subscription,” said Lincoln Addis, Gonzo’s sales manager. “In fact, several residents in the Lyons area were inquiring about using our system for their phone system, which actually can be accomplished very readily with VOIP.”
All residential and business customers need to begin service is installation ($150 for residences and $250 for business) of the box, which acts as both a hub and a transceiver in the proprietary point-to-point and point to multi-point wireless system. This proprietary system and the business plan for its “QENEXion(TM) Specialists” eliminates much of the technical aspects of installing a network for these QENEX(R) distributing partners.
“Most networks are constructed using off-the-shelf equipment, but QENEX(R) uses only hardware and antennas specifically designed and built by them for their proprietary protocols,” Judson said. “As the world waits on a new protocol to be developed by WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access committee) QENEX(R) has a solution that may already outperform that new protocol.”
Today’s widely accepted WI-FI technology is limited to about a mile between hubs and receiver, while the QENEX(R) solution regularly operates at distances of six miles and is able to perform at distances of more than 15 miles.
QENEX(R) also partners with BriLAN of Canada to provide superior Local Area Network, or LAN, solutions for offices, including Voice Over IP — phone calls transmitted over the Internet. All of this is available to subscribers, eliminating costly installation and technical support fees, Judson said.
Gonzo Access Inc., established in 2004, is the QENEXion(TM) Specialist for Colorado. Founder Mark Judson has more than 15 years of experience installing cellular and wireless broadband networks, including a $2 million contract with Qwest Wireless.
